Drywall repair, texture matching and wallpaper removal

Holes, cracks, water damage, old wallpaper and popcorn ceilings, repaired and textured so the patch disappears under the paint.

The short version: We patch or replace the damaged drywall, match the texture that is already on the wall and paint the repair so you cannot find it. Wallpaper removal and retexturing is the same crew. The estimate is free, itemized and in writing. Call or text (408) 464-7665.

The repair is easy. The texture is the hard part.

Anyone can fill a hole. What gives a patch away is the texture around it: a smooth patch on an orange peel wall shows in every light. The crew matches what is there, whether it is orange peel (most South Bay homes), knockdown, skip trowel, sand texture, a smooth finish or an acoustic ceiling, and feathers it out so there is no edge. Then the repair is primed and painted. On a wall that is being repainted anyway, the patch is gone. On a wall that is not, we paint corner to corner so the sheen matches.

Wallpaper removal and retexturing

Taking wallpaper down properly means removing the paper, the backing and the paste, repairing the wall underneath, skim coating it and putting a new texture on before paint. Done badly, the paper tears the drywall face and the wall never looks right again. David Pharr’s Google review describes his downstairs: wallpaper removed, a bedroom and family room retextured, then painted, with the master bedroom and office booked for the same treatment after a remodel.

Smoothing heavily textured walls

Some customers want the opposite: a heavy texture taken down to smooth. That is a skim coat job, several thin coats of compound sanded flat, and it takes time to do well. Wendy Salle’s bathroom walls had heavy texture and the crew spent, in her words, an incredible amount of time smoothing and preparing them before painting. The review is on Google.

“We had an exceptional experience with Ramon, the owner of Color Pros, and his team. The level of preparation and attention to detail throughout our project was outstanding. The crew painted the exterior of our home and front door, two pergolas, our shed, our living room, and our bathrooms. …”

What moves the price

Small patches are quick and are usually folded into a painting job. Larger repairs, water damage where the drywall has to be cut out, popcorn removal (which is slow, messy work that has to be contained) and whole-room skim coats are quoted on their own. Ramon looks at the damage in person because what is behind the drywall decides the job.

Drywall repair and texture questions

Can you match orange peel texture?

Yes. Orange peel is the most common texture in South Bay homes and the one we match most often. Knockdown, skip trowel and sand textures too.

Do you fix the cause of water damage?

We repair the drywall and paint it. If the leak is still active you need a plumber or roofer first, and we will tell you if the wall is still wet when we look at it.

Can you remove a popcorn ceiling?

Yes. Ceilings from before 1980 may contain asbestos and should be tested before removal; we can point you to a testing lab. After removal the ceiling is skim coated, textured or left smooth, and painted.

Will I be able to see the repair?

Not if we have done our job. The texture is matched, the primer is spot-applied and the paint goes corner to corner so the sheen is even.

Do you do small jobs, just a hole or two?

Yes. Small repairs often fit between bigger jobs. Send a photo by text to (408) 464-7665 and Ramon can usually tell you what it will take.
